Essential Newborn Care (ENC) refers to the basic care provided to all newborns immediately after birth to ensure survival and healthy adaptation, including thermal protection (keeping the baby warm), early initiation of breastfeeding, clean cord care, eye care, and infection prevention. Facility-Based Newborn Care (FBNC) is the care provided to sick or high-risk newborns in health facilities through different levels such as Newborn Care Corners (NBCC), Newborn Stabilization Units (NBSU), and Special Newborn Care Units (SNCU), focusing on management of conditions like prematurity, low birth weight, birth asphyxia, and infections. Together, ENC and FBNC help in reducing neonatal morbidity and mortality.
